Better Basics Laborbedarf was a guest at the Abbe-Centre Beutenberg of the TU Jena on 6 June 2023 and presented the SmartRack®. There was great interest in the innovative SmartRack® and numerous laboratory staff from various institutes of the TU Jena were able to get an overview of the versatile possibilities of the SmartRack®. Better Basics Laborbedarf uses 100% green electricity
Modules for our SmartRack® are produced using innovative 3D printing, a process that has the potential to optimise its energy consumption. This is one reason why we are constantly looking to strengthen and promote efficiency and sustainability. By switching to TIBBER as our electricity provider, we managed to combine a whole range of positive effects in the process. All 3D-printed modules of our SmartRack® are manufactured with 100% green electricity and, thanks to digital electricity metering, from now on in so-called “grid-serving consumption”. What does that mean? We can adapt our production to the dynamic billing of electricity prices and produce more intensively when electricity is cheapest. Thanks to this smart process, we are able to use green electricity more cost-effectively than would even be possible with “classic” electricity tariffs. We say: A really smart way to produce our SmartRack® sustainably and thus contribute to climate protection.
Successful completion and defence of the diploma thesis
We are very pleased that André Lange was able to successfully complete his diploma thesis in our development department. André studied automotive engineering at the HTW Dresden. The subject of his diploma thesis was the constructive optimisation of the SmartCase. The focus was on improving the ratio of weight and stability. The SmartCase was developed for transporting and storing the SmartRack®, a modular organisation system for laboratory workstations. Its aluminium case protects a SmartRack® and its contents safely from light and other environmental influences.

There was great interest in the topic of the presentation entitled “Increasing efficiency and improving occupational safety through optimised workplace organisation”, because the innovative laboratory organisation system, the SmartRack® from Better Basics Laborbedarf, creates completely new options in everyday laboratory work that were previously unthinkable.
The lecture was followed by many lively discussions on the topics of safety and efficiency in laboratories, as these are also increasingly becoming the focus of decision-makers and those responsible for occupational safety in laboratories.
