Guest on the Podcast "Labor im Ohr" – Mario Schneider Talks About Better Basics
Better Basics was a guest on “Labor im Ohr,” the podcast of the Laborimpulsforum. Host Maike Kranz, lab planner at Carpus+Partner, spoke with our co-founder and CEO Mario Schneider about the founding story of Better Basics, the origins of the SmartRack®, and the role of modern organization systems in everyday lab work.
In the conversation, Mario Schneider explains how a simple problem from the founders own lab routine at the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden sparked the idea for the SmartRack®. Together with numerous test users from industry and research, this evolved into a modular organization system that is now used in labs across pharmaceuticals, food analytics, and research.
A central topic of the conversation: why organization systems in the lab are still the exception rather than the rule – even though they have long been standard in industries such as automotive manufacturing. Mario Schneider draws parallels to safety, efficiency, and occupational health, explaining how a lack of structure at the workplace can lead to accidents and avoidable costs.
He also offers fascinating insights into Better Basics’ own 3D printing production using polyamide 12, the development of the brand’s signature green color, and the journey from the first prototype to today’s product portfolio of over one hundred holder modules.
An open, personal conversation about founding a company, product development, and the vision of a structured, safe lab workplace.
Well worth a listen!
