A Piece of Better Basics Settles into Leipzig's biocity

On 31 August 2026, Better Basics was welcomed as a guest of medical:forge, the co-working initiative run by leap:up life science within Leipzig’s biocity — a visit whose origins lie in Better Basics’ own membership of biosaxony: it was at the network’s New Year reception that a first conversation swiftly gave rise to the idea of a dedicated showroom. That idea has now taken tangible form. Two SmartRail TP units (SmartRail designed for trays and benchtops), each fitted with a different configuration of modules, together with a SmartRack mini and its accessories, have found a permanent home in the biocity, ensuring that Better Basics’ solutions are now a lasting, tangible presence on site.

The response from those working in the laboratory co-working spaces was immediate and warm — and in due course, every member of the biocity will have the opportunity to view the showroom for themselves, gaining a direct and practical impression of the systems in question. The installation amounts to rather more than a gesture: it is intended as a meaningful catalyst, affording users of the co-working space the kind of hands-on access to laboratory workplace organisation that would otherwise be available only within one’s own facility.

The Leipzig showroom takes its place among a number of projects that Better Basics already has in preparation or under way for 2026, and speaks to the company’s ongoing ambition to help shape Leipzig as a centre for laboratory work. The conversation with medical:forge also touched on forthcoming GMP training programmes, and on how Better Basics’ products might best be woven into that setting — a line of enquiry that points towards further collaboration to come.
