Higher Quality Right from the Start – Better Basics Expands Production with a New Blasting System

Since this spring, Better Basics has been using a new, state-of-the-art plastic shot blasting system. It handles the post-processing of our SLS-manufactured components made of polyamide 12—thereby improving a crucial step between 3D printing and the final Better Basics products.

Plastic shot blasting combines thorough cleaning with gentle, reproducible surface finishing in a single process step. Adhering and excess SLS powder is reliably removed—even from complex geometries. At the same time, the typically rough, grainy SLS surface is smoothed out, giving our components a more uniform and high-quality appearance. Delicate structures and contours are largely preserved when the parameters are set correctly.

What’s particularly important to us: Automated process parameters ensure consistent, reproducible part quality—while reducing the need for manual rework and allowing multiple parts to be processed simultaneously. This saves time and creates the perfect surface finish for subsequent processes such as dyeing or coating.
